virginia street bridge

Tutto Ferro was awarded the CMAR contract for the Virginia Street Bridge Replacement Project, collaborating closely with Q&D Construction to fabricate all of the bridge’s finish elements, including the railing that spans the bridge deck and descends into the plaza. This project also marked a pivotal moment for us, as we were commissioned to design and build multiple art installations along the riverwalk, celebrating the unique topography and cultural landmarks of Nevada.

The art pieces were inspired by the remarkable extremes and diversity of Nevada’s landscape, a land of both natural beauty and human history. From the Sedan Crater to the Truckee River, from the rugged Sierra Mountains to the iconic Las Vegas Strip, we sought to capture the essence of our state’s diverse geography. Our sculptures—created through precision water jet cutting—depict the topographic maps of significant locations like Pyramid Lake, Wheeler Peak, and the Truckee Meadows. These layered steel sculptures, ranging from 40 to 60 layers of steel, were crafted with meticulous care, utilizing USGS mapping files to ensure the accuracy of each detail. These 3D representations range from 6 to 8 inches tall, inviting viewers to engage with the intricate forms of Nevada’s natural and man-made landscapes.

Alongside the art pieces, our work extended to the bridge’s structural elements, where we used a blend of stainless steel, mild steel, solid steel bar, and Corten to craft not only a stunning focal point but also a durable and functional design. This project required seamless coordination between designers, general contractors, and the City of Reno to ensure the successful integration of all elements.

The Virginia Street Bridge stands as a testament to the precision, innovation, and community involvement that define Tutto Ferro’s approach to public art and infrastructure. We are proud to have been a part of this seminal project, which highlights our ongoing commitment to artistic development, cultural engagement, and the celebration of our region.
